About Self Funded.

Self Funded is a public index of Australian and New Zealand venture capital. It exists because the equivalent global directories — the Crunchbases and the Pitchbooks — are paywalled, US-centric, and frequently wrong on Australian entries. The local ecosystem deserves a better record.

What we do

We curate publicly available information from fund websites, partner announcements, ASIC and ACN filings, the AIC, and the firms themselves. The result is a single, navigable index — funds, partners, fund sizes, stages, portfolios — that anyone can read without an account.

What we don't do

We don't publish unverified figures. If we can’t find a credible public source for a valuation or a round size, we leave the field empty. We also don't resell access — the entire dataset is free to read, and corrections from founders and operators are welcomed and published quickly.

Methodology

  1. Each entry is normalised against a shared schema (see the JSON in /data/).
  2. A reviewer (currently human) validates founder names, round sizes and dates against at least one independent public source.
  3. Numbers are converted to AUD at the round close exchange rate where applicable.
  4. Entries are versioned. The index is rebuilt on every commit.

Contribute or correct
